Lewiston Maine: An All American City
Lewiston is the second largest city in Maine with a population of about 38,000. A former industrial center, it is located in south-central Maine, at the falls of the Androscoggin River, across from Auburn. Lewiston and Auburn are often thought of as a single location and referred to as Lewiston-Auburn, or locally as LA. Lewiston is home to Bates College, the University of Southern Maine's Lewiston-Auburn College, and two significant regional general hospitals: Central Maine Medical Center and Saint Mary's Regional Medical Center. Voted an All American City in 2007, Lewiston has undergone something of a renaissance over the past decade. The many historic buildings that line Maine Street and Lisbon Street in Downtown Lewiston are beginning to be renovated and new restaurants and venues are moving in. Large events are hosted at the Lewiston Colisee (pronounced coll-i-say), while a diverse group of events, plays, and concerts can be found through the Pulic Theatre and LA Arts. Lewiston is centrally located and has easy highway access to both Portland to the south, and the capital of Augusta to the northeast. Click Here to visit the City of Lewiston's website. While prices are still affordable in Maine, the Maine real estate market is showing signs of stabilization. The number of homes sold this year has been at a slow and steady increase, and in many counties has now exceeding the number of homes sold at this time last year.
